Performance Delivered for Daily Mail

The Daily Mail is one of Britain’s favourite newspapers, with a readership of over 5 million. As a daily newspaper the Mail constitutes a huge logistics challenge, as extremely large volumes have to be delivered under unrelenting deadlines. Our service to the Daily Mail demonstrates our experience in fulfilling even the most demanding contracts.
 
Due to the nature of the print industry, and the publication deadlines of the Daily Mail, high level logistics management is required. Production starts around 10:00 pm and finishes around 3:30 am, at which stage a Bedfords representative will supervise the loading of vehicles, and the distribution begins.

Volume

The Bedfords Group carry out daily transportation from four main print centres across the country, located in Newcastle, Didcot and Thurruck. Over a million copies of the Daily Mail are delivered each day, this generally requires in the region of 80 trucks, delivering to 83 locations.

Administration

We record every detail of this process with painstaking accuracy. This begins with data from the Daily Mail’s system, which is converted into loading and delivery paperwork, which eventually manifests itself as reporting and account documentation.

Reporting

We capture and store key information, which is reviewed weekly. We compare reported figures against our own forecasts, and against the KPI’s which underpin the service. We record time on site, time on bay, time of day, travelling time, delivery point arrival, and departure from drop off time. This means that we have an extremely accurate barometer of the service provided.

Sustainability

To ensure that the partnership remains environmentally friendly and cost sustainable, we utilise regional partners to expediate routes, to ensure that we maximise efficiency.

Efficiency

We schedule arrivals 1 hour prior to loading time so that drivers take their 45 minute rest period prior to the loading time, to ensure that the vehicle can move on to the next delivery point immediately after loading.
